Where it came from
The Clue token was released in 2024 as part of the Magic: The Gathering set Outlaws of Thunder Junction. The token serves as a functional representation of a Clue artifact card, which allows players to sacrifice it in exchange for drawing a card. This specific token design was created to integrate with the mechanics of the set, which features a thematic focus on outlaws, heist-inspired gameplay, and the rugged frontier aesthetic of the plane of Thunder Junction.
The artistic direction for this token follows the established visual language of the set, which blends traditional fantasy elements with a Western-inspired motif. Illustrators for the set, overseen by Wizards of the Coast, aimed to ensure the token remained legible and distinct on the battlefield while maintaining the high-quality, atmospheric aesthetic that modern Magic: The Gathering players expect from contemporary supplemental and primary set materials.
