Command Tower

Command Tower was originally introduced in the very first Commander preconstructed decks in 2011, created specifically to solve the mana-fixing challenges inherent to the singleton, multi-color nature of the Commander format. Its design represents a utilitarian necessity for the game, providing a reliable source of any color of mana for a player's commander. The Commander Legends version, released in 2020, reimagined this essential utility land with new artwork by artist Johannes Voss, who utilized the set's high-fantasy aesthetic to evoke a sense of scale and importance fitting for a central fortification.

The inclusion of Command Tower in Commander Legends served to maintain its accessibility for players engaging with the Draft-focused set. While the card's mechanics remain straightforward and ubiquitous across the format, the artistry by Voss brought a more dramatic, architectural focus to the card compared to its functional, stark predecessors. This version was well-received by the player base for offering a visually elevated take on a card that is considered a staple inclusion in virtually every multi-color Commander deck.
