Command Tower

Command Tower was originally introduced in the inaugural Commander preconstructed decks in 2011 to solve a critical functional gap in the multiplayer format. Because Commander decks utilize a massive pool of cards with a strict color identity rule, players often struggled with mana consistency in multi-color builds. By allowing a player to tap for any color in their commander's identity, the land became an essential utility piece that quickly established itself as a staple inclusion for nearly every deck in the format.

The Commander 2020 version features illustration by Ryan Yee, who brought a sense of scale and architectural grandeur to the piece. Yee’s design leans into the thematic aesthetic of a central hub or fortress, visually reinforcing its role as the anchor of a player’s mana base. This iteration is widely appreciated by players for its clarity and the way the artwork conveys the card's function as a structural necessity within the complex landscape of Commander gameplay.
