Where it came from
Windfall was originally printed in the Urza's Saga set in 1998, designed by Richard Garfield to represent a sudden shift in game state where players discard their hands and draw anew based on the opponent with the most cards. The card quickly gained a reputation for its extreme power level in formats where players tend to dump their hands quickly, leading to it being restricted or banned in various competitive environments over the years.
The Commander 2020 version, released in 2020, features updated frame aesthetics and art consistent with the supplemental product's broader visual identity. This printing reintroduced the classic effect to a new generation of players within the Commander format, where the card remains a staple due to its ability to act as both a strategic reset and a powerful form of card advantage in multiplayer games.
