Giant Growth

Giant Growth was originally printed in Alpha, the inaugural 1993 release of Magic: The Gathering, as a foundational green instant that allowed players to temporarily boost a creature's power and toughness. As one of the game's most efficient combat tricks, it became a staple of early gameplay, embodying the color green's philosophy of rapid, nature-inspired growth. The artwork, originally rendered by Christopher Rush, captured the card's essence with a simple yet evocative depiction of mystical enlargement.

The Collectors' Edition was released in 1993 as a non-tournament-legal boxed set intended for collectors rather than competitive play. Featuring squared corners and gold-stamped backs, these cards were created to allow players to own a complete set of the game's early offerings, which had become difficult to acquire due to their rapid rise in popularity. While the design largely mirrored the original Alpha release, the unique physical attributes of this printing ensure it remains a significant touchstone for those documenting the history of trading card game design.
