Where it came from
Hymn to Tourach was originally introduced in the Fallen Empires expansion in 1994, quickly becoming one of the most feared cards in the game due to its efficient discard mechanics. As part of the 1997 Pro Tour Collector Set, this specific version was released to commemorate the deck used by professional players during the competitive circuit, offering fans a way to own iconic cards from high-level play.
The card’s striking illustration was created by artist Quinton Hoover. Known for his distinctive, fluid style, Hoover aimed to capture the dark, ritualistic essence of the spell. While the original release of the card sparked intense debate regarding its power level, the Pro Tour Collector Set version is valued today primarily for its historical connection to the early days of Magic: The Gathering competitive play and the unique gold-bordered aesthetic that distinguishes it from standard tournament-legal cards.
