Where it came from
Hymn to Tourach was originally introduced in the Fallen Empires expansion in 1994, quickly gaining notoriety as one of the most powerful discard spells in the early history of Magic: The Gathering. Its design, characterized by an efficient two-mana cost that forced an opponent to discard two cards at random, made it a cornerstone of black-aligned control decks and a central figure in the competitive metagame of the mid-1990s.
The version from the Pro Tour Collector Set, designated gb38c, was released in 1997 as part of a series designed to commemorate the decks played by top competitors at the inaugural Pro Tour. These cards are distinct for their gold-bordered backs and facsimile signatures, created to allow players to own and play with replicas of high-level tournament decks without undermining the value of the original tournament-legal cards.
