Where it came from
Opposition was released as part of the Amonkhet Invocations, a series of premium, masterfully illustrated foil cards included in the Amonkhet expansion for Magic: The Gathering. These cards featured a distinct aesthetic designed to evoke the ancient, hieroglyphic-inspired mythology of the plane of Amonkhet. The art direction leaned heavily into high-contrast motifs, utilizing a unique border treatment that differentiated these cards from the standard set releases of the era.
The card itself functions as a powerful blue enchantment, originally debuting in the Urza's Destiny set. The design work for this specific Invocation focused on capturing the oppressive, divine authority of the Egyptian-themed setting. Upon release, the Amonkhet Invocations were met with a polarized reception from the player base due to their unconventional frame design and specific visual style, though they remain significant within the secondary market as high-rarity collectible variants.
