Where it came from
Opposition was originally printed as a rare card in the Urza's Destiny expansion in 1999, designed to provide blue decks with a powerful mechanism for board control. The card's ability to tap down opponent permanents became a hallmark of tactical play during its Standard tenure, cementing its reputation as a cornerstone of the 'Blue-Green Opposition' archetype that dominated competitive tournaments at the turn of the millennium.
This specific version originates from the 2001 World Championship Decks, a product line created by Wizards of the Coast to replicate the exact deck lists used by top-performing players at the World Championships. The cards in this set feature distinct gold-bordered backs and facsimile signatures of the professional players, intended as a commemorative memento for collectors and enthusiasts to experience the exact mechanics of high-level competitive play.
