Where it came from
Opposition was originally printed in the Urza's Destiny expansion in 1999, designed to be a centerpiece of blue control strategies. Its mechanics allow a player to tap down opponent permanents by tapping their own creatures, creating a powerful locking effect that dictates the pace of a match. The card quickly became a staple in competitive formats of the late nineties for its ability to neutralize threats before they can act.
The Seventh Edition version, featuring the collector number 92, was released in 2001 as part of the game's core set transition. This printing utilizes the classic modern frame and updated card layout characteristic of the era. The artwork by Jeff Miracola maintains the original surrealist influence, depicting an ethereal force exerting control, which remains highly regarded by collectors for its aesthetic consistency with the early history of the game.
