Phantasmal Forces

Phantasmal Forces originated in the 1994 Summer Magic set, also colloquially known as Edgar. This set was produced by Wizards of the Coast as a corrective reprint of the original Revised Edition, intended to resolve various printing errors and color inconsistencies that had plagued the earlier release. It remains one of the most enigmatic chapters in the game's history, as its existence was largely kept quiet at the time, resulting in a low distribution that eventually made the cards highly sought after by collectors.

The card artwork maintains the distinct aesthetic of early Magic: The Gathering, relying on the fantasy illustrations common to the era's design language. Because the set was a direct functional reprint, the card uses existing art assets rather than new commissions. Upon its eventual discovery by the wider community, the set was received with great intrigue due to its unique white-bordered appearance and the subtle differences in card stock and saturation that distinguish it from standard Revised copies.
