Healing Salve

Healing Salve was originally released as part of the Alpha and Beta sets for Magic: The Gathering in 1993, representing the classic white mana mechanic of life gain. The specific version known as 'Summer Magic,' or Edgar, was printed in 1994 as a limited production run intended for international release. Due to a series of errors, including incorrect coloring and distribution issues, the vast majority of this print run was recalled and destroyed, rendering the surviving copies some of the most elusive artifacts in the game's history.

The artwork for the card was illustrated by Quinton Hoover, a foundational artist for the early game whose style was noted for its flowing lines and fantasy aesthetic. His depiction of a mystical, restorative touch became an iconic visual shorthand for white-aligned healing spells. While the card is mechanically identical to its predecessors, the Summer Magic iteration is distinguished by its crisp, corrected print quality and the unique historical narrative of its near-total suppression by Wizards of the Coast.
