Where it came from
Scrubland originally debuted in the 1993 Alpha set for Magic: The Gathering, designed by Richard Garfield as part of the initial cycle of dual lands. These cards were created to provide players with flexible mana sources, representing the foundational terrain of the game's lore. The 2022B Legacy Championship version serves as a commemorative release, intended to honor the enduring competitive history of the Eternal formats.
The artwork for the original iteration was created by Jesper Myrfors, the game’s first art director, who aimed to evoke a sense of stark, untamed wilderness through a minimalist aesthetic. This specific Legacy Championship printing utilizes updated visual elements while maintaining the iconic mechanical identity that has made the card a cornerstone of high-level competitive play for decades.
