Scrubland

Scrubland originated in the 1993 Alpha set as part of the initial cycle of dual lands, designed by Richard Garfield to provide efficient mana fixing for Magic: The Gathering. These cards were revolutionary for their time, allowing players to tap for two different colors of mana without any penalty, which fundamentally shaped the competitive landscape of the game. The card was illustrated by Sandra Everingham, who employed a lush, painterly aesthetic that defined the visual language of the game's earliest expansions.

The 2018 Legacy Championship version of Scrubland is a highly specific, tournament-stamped printing awarded to participants or top-performing players at that particular event. As a 'dual land,' the card is a cornerstone of the Legacy format, and the inclusion of the championship stamp serves as both a memento of high-level competitive play and a functional piece of cardboard history. It represents the intersection of the game's foundational mechanics and the professional organized play circuit that developed decades later.
