Provenance

Where it came from

The 30th Anniversary Edition Scrubland was released by Wizards of the Coast in 2022 to commemorate three decades of the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. This set was designed as a non-tournament legal collector’s item that featured classic cards from the original Alpha and Beta sets, faithfully recreating the iconic artwork originally illustrated by Christopher Rush. The card represents a dual land, a foundational element of competitive strategy that allows players to tap for either green or white mana, mirroring the functional design of the original 1993 card.

The release was framed as a celebration of the game's history, utilizing a distinct card back and a specialized gold-stamped holographic seal to differentiate these reprints from authentic vintage cards. While the decision to create these high-fidelity replicas sparked extensive debate within the hobbyist community regarding the preservation of the original secondary market, the cards themselves are widely appreciated by collectors for the quality of their card stock and the clear, crisp reproduction of the beloved 1990s aesthetic.
