Provenance

Where it came from

The Snake token, numbered 15 in the Commander 2020 set, was released by Wizards of the Coast in 2020 as part of the auxiliary deck components for the Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths Commander release. These tokens were produced to represent the specific creature types generated by new card mechanics introduced in the set, providing a functional, branded visual aid for players utilizing cards that create 1/1 Snake creatures.

The illustration for this token follows the thematic aesthetic of the Ikoria plane, which focuses on bold, mutated biodiversity and monstrous wildlife. As is standard for modern Magic: The Gathering tokens, the design was commissioned to maintain consistency with the set's broader art direction, emphasizing a sleek, predatory appearance that aligns with the game's creature-type visual language established during that period.
