Provenance

Where it came from

The Snake token, numbered 12 in the Modern Masters 2015 set, was released by Wizards of the Coast to support the mechanics of cards within the limited-environment set, specifically those that create Snake creature tokens. As a supplementary product designed to revisit iconic cards from the game's history, the Modern Masters series utilized these tokens to ensure players had a consistent physical representation of temporary battlefield entities during draft and sealed play.

The artwork for this specific token was crafted by Aleksi Briclot, a prolific fantasy artist known for his atmospheric and textured style. Briclot's design emphasizes the serpentine nature of the creature through dynamic, coiled motion, intended to provide immediate visual clarity on a crowded game board. While tokens are secondary to main deck cards, the consistent art direction of the Modern Masters series made this specific iteration a recognizable staple for players utilizing green-based token strategies.
