Where it came from
Treasure Cruise was originally released in the 2014 Magic: The Gathering set Khans of Tarkir, designed to showcase the new 'delve' mechanic. This ability allowed players to exile cards from their graveyard to reduce the mana cost of a spell, effectively turning a full graveyard into a resource. The card was illustrated by Johannes Voss, whose artwork captures the feeling of a wide-reaching exploration through the icy, mountainous terrain of the Mardu clans.
The card was included in 'The List', a rotating selection of reprints curated by Wizards of the Coast for inclusion in Set Boosters, starting in 2020. Because Treasure Cruise is widely considered one of the most powerful card-drawing spells in the history of the game, it was quickly banned or restricted in several competitive formats shortly after its debut. Its inclusion in The List serves as a nod to its historical impact and its enduring popularity among players who enjoy graveyard-based strategies.
