Where it came from
Treasure Cruise was originally introduced in the Khans of Tarkir expansion in 2014, designed as a powerful blue sorcery utilizing the delve mechanic. This mechanic allows players to exile cards from their graveyard to reduce the cost of casting, which made the spell exceptionally efficient in formats where players could fill their graveyards quickly. Its dominance in competitive play eventually led to restrictions or bans in several formats, cementing its reputation as one of the most potent card-advantage tools in the game's history.
The Secrets of Strixhaven Commander version, released in 2021, features the signature aesthetic of the Strixhaven: School of Mages set. This iteration is part of the Mystical Archive, a specialized subset of cards featuring unique, ornate, and often academic-inspired artwork designed to evoke the feeling of ancient spellbooks. While the mechanical function of the card remains identical to its original printing, this version is sought after by collectors for its distinct, university-themed visual style that reflects the magical scholarly setting of the Strixhaven plane.
