Where it came from
Treasure Cruise was originally introduced in the 2014 expansion Khans of Tarkir, designed by Wizards of the Coast as a powerful draw spell featuring the delve mechanic. This mechanic allows players to exile cards from their graveyard to reduce the spell's cost, effectively turning a late-game graveyard resource into a low-cost card advantage engine. Its impact was immediate and profound, leading to its restriction or banning in multiple competitive formats due to its exceptional efficiency compared to traditional blue draw spells.
The Commander 2016 printing, which features artwork by Lake Hurwitz, recontextualized the card for the multiplayer Commander format. While the original set focused on the warlord factions of the Tarkir plane, this version offered players a new aesthetic iteration for their singleton decks. The design reflects the high-fantasy style consistent with the Magic: The Gathering brand, emphasizing the theme of uncovering ancient relics within the game's expansive lore.
