Where it came from
The Shanks card, cataloged as OP17-022 within The World's Strongest Warriors set, is a notable entry in the One Piece Card Game. It was released to capitalize on the high popularity of the character Shanks, one of the Four Emperors in the series, whose enigmatic nature and central role in the narrative make him a frequent subject for high-rarity card designs. The set was developed by Bandai to provide players and collectors with competitive character cards that mirror the high-stakes combat portrayed in Eiichiro Oda’s long-running manga.
The artistic direction for this series emphasizes dynamic, high-impact visuals that highlight the character's signature Haki and swordplay. Designers utilized bold composition and premium holographic finishes to appeal to the game's growing community of collectors. Upon release, the card was received well for its aesthetic quality and its utility in specific deck builds, positioning it as both a functional piece for gameplay and a desirable collectible for fans of the source material.
