Provenance

Where it came from

Preparation of Rites was first introduced as a Super Rare card in the 2009 set Hidden Arsenal, later appearing as a Rare in the 2023 Amazing Defenders booster set. Mechanically, it serves as a critical search engine for Ritual archetypes, allowing players to add a Level 7 or lower Ritual Monster from their deck to their hand while simultaneously recycling a Ritual Spell from the graveyard. This utility made it a staple for any deck utilizing Ritual summoning mechanics, ensuring consistency in a game where deck speed is paramount.

The card's artwork features a ritualistic scene that aligns with the mystical, gothic aesthetic typical of the Ritual monster support system in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game. Designed to balance the inherent card-economy disadvantage of ritual summons, the illustration reflects a deliberate, focused gathering of magical resources. Its longevity in competitive play stems from this design, as it remains one of the few reliable tools for navigating the resource-heavy requirements of the archetype.
