Preparation of Rites

Preparation of Rites was introduced as part of the Stardust Overdrive expansion set, released in 2009 for the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game. As a spell card designed to support Ritual Summoning, it was released during an era where the game mechanics were shifting to favor more consistent searching engines. It was created to provide a dedicated tool for Ritual-heavy decks, allowing players to add both a low-level Ritual Monster and a Ritual Spell card from their deck to their hand simultaneously.

The card's design follows the aesthetic conventions of the era, focusing on the mechanical utility of card economy. The illustration depicts a solemn ceremonial scene, reflecting the theme of preparing for a high-level invocation. While individual artists for specific Yu-Gi-Oh! cards are rarely credited publicly, the design was well-received by the player base for its role in making Ritual strategies more competitive and reliable in a fast-paced environment.
