Where it came from
Balance was originally released in the Alpha set of Magic: The Gathering in 1993, designed by Richard Garfield. As one of the original 'power nine' adjacent cards, it became infamous for its ability to equalize the board state, leading to its eventual restriction and ban in many competitive formats due to its sheer efficiency in controlling resource parity.
This specific version was released as part of a Secret Lair drop, a series of curated, limited-time offerings featuring thematic or stylized reprints. The design for this iteration features a unique, modern aesthetic intended to lean into the ethereal and mythological themes often associated with the game's high-fantasy roots, appealing to collectors who value the intersection of functional gameplay staples and high-end artistic presentation.
