Where it came from
Champion of Wits is a blue creature card originally printed in the Hour of Devastation expansion for Magic: The Gathering in 2017. The design features a human wizard capable of being played for its base cost or its eternalize ability, which allows it to return from the graveyard as a 4/4 zombie token. This specific version comes from the Commander 2021 Tokens release, which provided supplemental physical representations for cards that create tokens during gameplay.
The artwork for the card was created by Bastien L. Deharme, who utilized a distinct, ethereal style to evoke the magical themes of the Amonkhet plane. The design focuses on the character's role as a scholarly combatant, balancing utility through card draw with a persistent board presence. Upon its introduction, the card was widely received by competitive and casual players alike for its efficiency in decks that utilize the graveyard as a resource.
