Where it came from
Consider was released in 2021 as part of the Innistrad: Midnight Hunt expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The card was designed as a mechanically efficient spell, featuring the 'surveil' keyword, which allows a player to look at the top card of their library and choose to keep it or put it into the graveyard. This set revisited the gothic horror themes of the original Innistrad block, focusing on themes of duality, light, and darkness as the plane struggled against an eternal night.
The artwork for this printing was created by artist Johannes Voss, who utilized a moody, atmospheric style to capture the card's theme of deliberation and foresight. Voss aimed to reflect the tension inherent in the plane's struggle, opting for a visual representation of magical contemplation. Upon release, the card was widely received by competitive players as a powerful utility tool for graveyard-based strategies, quickly becoming a staple in multiple constructed formats due to its low mana cost and flexibility.
