Lightning Bolt

Lightning Bolt was originally printed in the 1993 Alpha set for Magic: The Gathering, quickly establishing itself as a fundamental red spell that defines the game's balance. Designed by Richard Garfield, the card represents the efficiency of direct damage, allowing players to deal three damage to any target for a single red mana. Its legacy is tied to the color red's philosophy of speed and aggression, serving as the benchmark by which all other burn spells have been measured for three decades.

The Double Masters 2022 version, numbered 117, serves as a premium showcase for this classic spell. Featuring updated, high-fidelity art that leans into the visceral energy of a lightning strike, this printing was created to cater to collectors and competitive players alike who value aesthetic consistency across high-end decks. It received a warm reception from the community, who generally appreciate how the set treated staple cards with elevated art direction while maintaining the iconic utility that has kept Lightning Bolt in play since the early 1990s.
