Where it came from
The Cat token, designated as collector number 2 in the Secrets of Strixhaven Commander set, was released by Wizards of the Coast in 2021. These tokens were designed to function as supplemental game pieces for the Strixhaven: School of Mages Commander decks, specifically intended to represent the creature output of cards like Felisa, Fang of Silverquill. The inclusion of these tokens serves to streamline gameplay by providing players with physical markers for temporary battlefield entities.
The visual design of this token draws from the established high-fantasy aesthetic of the Magic: The Gathering multiverse, emphasizing the magical and academic themes inherent to the Strixhaven plane. As part of a utility-focused product line, the token features art commissioned by Wizards of the Coast to maintain stylistic consistency with the primary card sets. It was received by the player base as a functional component of the wider Commander ecosystem, valued primarily for its practical utility during multiplayer matches.
