Provenance

Where it came from

The Spirit token, numbered 008 within the Double Masters 2022 set, was produced by Wizards of the Coast as an auxiliary component for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Released in July 2022, this set was designed as a premium reprint product intended to provide players with access to highly sought-after cards. Tokens serve as essential gameplay markers for effects that create creatures, and this specific iteration was curated to support the graveyard-focused and synergistic themes prevalent throughout the Double Masters 2022 draft experience.

The artistic direction for this token emphasizes the ethereal and otherworldly nature of spirits within the Magic: The Gathering multiverse. The illustration follows the established visual language of modern tokens, prioritizing clarity and thematic alignment with the game's broader aesthetic. While token art is often generated by internal studio artists to complement specific set aesthetics, this design was well-received by the player base for its clean composition and utility in tournament play, where physical representation of board states is a prerequisite.
