Provenance

Where it came from

The Spirit token, numbered 6 in the Commander 2020 set, was produced by Wizards of the Coast to support the various graveyard-themed mechanics introduced in the associated preconstructed decks. These tokens serve as ephemeral game pieces representing the creatures created by spells like Secure the Wastes or various cards within the 'Timeless Wisdom' and 'Enhanced Evolution' decks, ensuring players had a consistent physical marker for their board states.

The artwork for this token aligns with the atmospheric, ethereal aesthetic characteristic of the Magic: The Gathering Commander 2020 release. The design emphasizes a spectral, translucent form typical of the Spirit creature type, utilizing the muted color palettes and high-fantasy illustrative style common to the set's token cycle. Upon release, it was well-received by players for its clear visual language and contribution to the streamlined play experience of the Commander format.
