Where it came from
Windfall was originally printed in the 1997 Urza's Saga expansion for Magic: The Gathering. It was designed as a high-risk, high-reward sorcery that forces players to discard their hands and draw cards equal to the greatest number discarded. The card quickly became a staple in multiplayer formats due to its ability to disrupt opponents while refilling the player's own hand, eventually leading to its restriction or banning in various competitive formats over the years.
The version from the Kaldheim Commander set features updated art that aligns with the Norse-inspired aesthetic of the Kaldheim plane. While the card's core mechanics remain identical to the original design by Mike Elliott, this specific iteration serves as a functional reprint designed to make the powerful effect more accessible to players of the Commander format. It is widely considered a cornerstone card for decks focused on wheeling strategies or graveyard synergy.
