Where it came from
Windfall was originally introduced in the 1997 Urza's Saga expansion for Magic: The Gathering. It was designed as a powerful wheel effect, forcing all players to discard their hands and draw cards equal to the greatest number of cards discarded this way, reflecting the chaotic and high-variance nature of the Urza block's mechanical design.
This specific iteration, numbered 859, appears in the 2023 Commander Masters set. The artwork was commissioned to update the card's visual identity for a premium supplemental release, maintaining the core mechanical function while providing players with a refreshed aesthetic that fits within the high-power, multiplayer-focused environment of the Commander format.
