Where it came from
The Beast token, designated as collector number 4 within the Magic 2012 (M12) core set, was produced by Wizards of the Coast to support gameplay mechanics that generate creature tokens. These tokens were included in booster packs to assist players in physically representing creatures created by specific cards within the M12 set, such as Garruk, Primal Hunter, whose abilities brought these tokens into play.
The artwork for this specific token was created by artist Jesper Ejsing. His design utilizes a visceral, earthy aesthetic consistent with the aggressive nature of green-aligned creatures in the game. During its release, the card was widely utilized by tournament players and casual collectors alike, serving as a functional utility piece that anchored the visual identity of the Magic 2012 core set experience.
