Where it came from
The Force of Will Judge Gift card, released in 2014, serves as a premium promotional iteration of one of the most iconic spells in the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Originally debuted in the Alliances set in 1996, the card is a cornerstone of competitive play, allowing players to counter spells for free by discarding a blue card. This specific printing was distributed exclusively to certified judges as a token of appreciation for their service in maintaining the integrity and organization of sanctioned events.
The artwork for this particular printing was created by artist Terese Nielsen, who reimagined the classic visual identity of the card with a distinct, ethereal aesthetic. By utilizing the judge gift program, Wizards of the Coast sought to reward volunteers with high-quality, foil-treated variants of essential game pieces. The card has since become a highly sought-after collector's item, valued both for its gameplay utility in the Legacy and Vintage formats and for its prestige within the community of long-term players and judges.
