Where it came from
Force of Will was originally printed in the 1996 Alliances expansion for Magic: The Gathering. It was designed as a zero-mana counterspell intended to provide a powerful tool for players to interact with the game state even while tapped out, immediately becoming a cornerstone of competitive play. The artwork by Terese Nielsen portrays a stoic figure, which has since become one of the most recognizable and iconic images in the game's long history.
The 2011 Legacy Championship version is a special promotional printing awarded to participants or high-placing players at the 2011 Legacy Championship event. These cards are highly sought after by collectors due to their limited distribution and the status of the Legacy format, which allows for the use of cards from almost the entire history of the game. The aesthetic remains faithful to the original design, serving as a prestigious memento for players who competed in the upper echelons of the tournament circuit during that period.
