Where it came from
Force of Will was first released in the 1996 Alliances expansion, fundamentally shifting the game's competitive landscape by allowing players to counter spells without spending mana. This 'Dominaria Remastered' version, numbered 418, features the iconic original illustration by Terese Nielsen, which depicts a wizard channeling intense magical energy. The set was designed to curate the most influential and beloved cards from the plane of Dominaria, presenting them with updated frames and modern quality standards.
The card's design philosophy centers on the 'free counterspell' mechanic, providing a critical safety valve in fast-paced formats like Legacy and Vintage. By allowing a player to exile a blue card to cast the spell, it ensures that even tapped-out players can respond to game-ending threats. This specific printing was well-received by long-term fans who appreciate the aesthetic of the classic artwork reimagined within the polished, cohesive framework of the Remastered series.
