Where it came from
Force of Will was originally printed in the 1996 Alliances expansion for Magic: The Gathering. It was designed by the development team to be a crucial balance mechanism, allowing players to interact with powerful spells even when they had no untapped lands. By allowing a player to exile a blue card from their hand as an alternative cost to paying its mana, the card revolutionized the competitive landscape, becoming a staple of the Legacy and Vintage formats.
The Dominaria Remastered version, featuring collector number 284, highlights the iconic original illustration by Terese Nielsen. This version was released in 2023 as part of a set curated to celebrate the deep history and aesthetic of the plane of Dominaria. The artwork remains highly regarded for its evocative depiction of a wizard exerting immense arcane energy, and its inclusion in this retrospective set allows players to acquire the classic design with modern printing standards.
