Provenance

Where it came from

Karplusan Forest was originally released in the 1995 Ice Age set, designed as part of a cycle of pain lands that provided color-fixing flexibility at the cost of life. The card represents the rugged, mountainous wilderness of Dominaria, capturing the harsh environment through the stark, evocative illustrations characteristic of early Magic: The Gathering card art.

The Pro Tour Collector Set, released in 1997, was a series of boxed decks designed to celebrate the competitive landscape of the game by featuring cards from the top-performing decks of that year's Pro Tour. While the cards in these sets are non-tournament legal due to their distinct gold-bordered backs, they have become cherished historical markers of Magic's formative competitive era and the meta-game developments of the late nineties.
