Karplusan Forest

Karplusan Forest was originally introduced in the Ice Age expansion of Magic: The Gathering in 1995, designed to provide players with a land that could tap for either red or green mana. The card reflects the brutal, mountainous geography of the Karplusan region from the game's lore, presenting a dual-colored utility that became a staple for aggressive decks relying on those specific colors. Its inclusion in Fifth Edition served as a reprint for the core set, maintaining its role as a fundamental tool for mana fixing during a period of transition for the game's competitive landscape.

The artwork for the Fifth Edition printing was rendered by artist Quinton Hoover, who was widely celebrated for his unique, fluid, and often dreamlike illustrative style. Hoover’s design for the card sought to capture the rugged and somewhat volatile nature of the terrain, using vibrant colors to signify the land's ability to produce two distinct types of magical energy. The card has been well-regarded by collectors and players alike, serving as a functional piece of Magic history that bridges the gap between the game's early specialized expansions and the more standardized core sets of the late 1990s.
