Swamp

The Summer Magic set, colloquially known as the Edgar set, was produced in 1994 as an intended replacement for the Revised Edition of Magic: The Gathering. Due to a series of significant production errors and oversights—including misprinted card titles and incorrect power levels—Wizards of the Coast attempted to recall and destroy the majority of the inventory. The few cards that entered circulation were those inadvertently released through distributors, turning this accidental release into one of the most storied rarities in the hobby.

The Swamp card features the distinct, minimalist style of artist Dan Frazier, who was a foundational contributor to the early aesthetic of the game. His approach favored clean, iconic imagery that communicated the elemental nature of the basic lands without unnecessary clutter. While the illustration was originally commissioned for earlier sets, its appearance in the Summer Magic printing is particularly prized by collectors due to the set's infamy and the specific color saturation levels unique to that print run.
