Where it came from
The 'Summer Magic' set, often referred to as 'Edgar,' was produced in 1994 as a limited print run for the Magic: The Gathering card game. It was intended to correct printing errors found in the earlier Revised Edition, particularly regarding color saturation and card back clarity. The set is notable for its slightly brighter card stock and distinct, deep coloring that sets it apart from the standard releases of the era.
The Island card featured in this set retains the classic landscape aesthetic central to the game's early identity. While the artwork itself was pulled from the established library of basic land illustrations used during the game's foundational years, the Summer Magic printing represents a highly specific, late-production variant. Because of its quiet release and restricted distribution through hobby stores, it remains one of the most sought-after variations for collectors focused on the game's early history.
