Where it came from
The Treasure token from the March of the Machine set, released by Wizards of the Coast in 2023, represents a recurring mechanical element in the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Tokens are designed as physical aids to track temporary game objects that players create during matches. The design for this specific token reflects the grand, multiversal conflict depicted in the set, where heroes and villains from across different planes of existence united against the threat of the Phyrexians.
The artwork for this token adheres to the aesthetic requirements of the set, emphasizing metallic textures and the high-fantasy visual language characteristic of contemporary Magic cards. Like other tokens in this release, it was commissioned by the publisher to fulfill a functional role in gameplay while maintaining stylistic continuity with the expansion's wider artistic direction. It was received as a standard utility piece, appreciated by players for its clarity and thematic alignment with the set's treasure-generating mechanics.
