Treasure

The Treasure token, bearing the collector number 20 from the Modern Horizons 2 set, was released by Wizards of the Coast in June 2021. Designed to accompany cards that generate Treasure artifacts, the token serves a functional role in Magic: The Gathering gameplay by representing a sacrificeable artifact that provides one mana of any color. Its introduction in this set was part of a broader initiative to provide thematic and visually distinct tokens that mirror the specific artistic styles of their respective expansion sets.

The artwork for this specific iteration of the Treasure token features a gold-laden chest spilling its contents, captured with the intricate detail and high-fantasy aesthetic characteristic of the Modern Horizons 2 art direction. These tokens were included as randomized inserts within booster packs, intended as essential utility items for players utilizing deck strategies centered around resource acceleration. They were received as a welcome aesthetic upgrade by the player base, standardizing the representation of a mechanic that had become increasingly prevalent in the game's competitive and casual formats.
