Treasure

The Final Fantasy Tokens collection was released in the late 1990s, coinciding with the massive international surge in popularity of the franchise following the success of Final Fantasy VII. These collectibles were designed as small, metallic-finished discs, often distributed through vending machines or specialized hobby retailers to capture the interest of the burgeoning demographic of young console gamers who were eager for tactile memorabilia beyond the screen.

The design of the 'Treasure' token draws from the iconic aesthetic of the series' item menu icons. While the specific illustrator is rarely credited in the archives of these mass-produced promotional items, the visual style leans into the minimalist, high-contrast iconography established by the original game artists to ensure instant recognition. At the time of release, they were viewed as accessible entry-level collectibles for fans looking to display their affinity for the series' extensive lore and inventory systems.
