Where it came from
The Treasure token, numbered 12 in the Secrets of Strixhaven set, was introduced in 2021 as part of the Strixhaven: School of Mages expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Tokens in this set were designed to represent artifacts created by spells or abilities, providing a physical marker for players to track these resources during gameplay. The aesthetic reflects the arcane, collegiate theme of Strixhaven University, featuring intricate magical iconography consistent with the world-building established for the set.
The design of the token relies on the artistic direction established for the Strixhaven expansion, emphasizing the scholarly and mystical atmosphere of the five colleges. It serves as a utilitarian, functional component of the game, intended to maintain visual clarity on the battlefield. As a component of the wider Magic: The Gathering ecosystem, tokens like this are produced to facilitate complex gameplay interactions while remaining visually cohesive with the cards that generate them.
