Treasure

The Doctor Who Tokens were released as a promotional set during the mid-1970s, designed to capitalize on the enduring popularity of the BBC's science fiction series. These small, collectible cards were typically distributed through confectionery packaging or as magazine inserts, reflecting the era's trend of marketing multimedia tie-ins to a younger demographic. They were crafted to provide fans with portable, visual representations of iconic characters, monsters, and elements from the show's lore.

The design of the Treasure card, like others in the series, utilizes promotional still photography sourced from the television program’s production archives. The aesthetic is straightforward and functional, aiming to evoke the mysterious atmosphere of the show rather than employing elaborate graphic design. While these tokens were primarily intended as ephemeral playthings for children, they have since become modest artifacts of British pop culture history, valued by enthusiasts for their nostalgic connection to the classic era of Doctor Who.
