Change of Heart

The Change of Heart card was released as part of the Starter Deck: Joey in 2003, a pivotal product designed to capitalize on the immense popularity of the Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters anime. As the set was modeled after the character Joey Wheeler, it included staple cards that defined the competitive meta of the era. The card serves as a translation of the powerful spell card featured prominently in the source material, representing a pivotal moment in character-themed merchandise.

The design of the card, featuring the iconic image of a heart with hands, was part of the original Japanese OCG artwork adapted for the global TCG release. Illustrators for the franchise were tasked with creating visual representations of magic and trap effects that were distinct and easily recognizable during high-stakes play. While Change of Heart became a staple due to its formidable tactical utility in controlling opposing monsters, its common rarity in this specific starter deck made it one of the most accessible and widely utilized cards for entry-level players at the time of its release.
