Healing Salve

Healing Salve was included in the 2003 Battle Royale Box Set, a collection designed to consolidate popular cards from the early years of the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Originally debuting in the game's 1993 Alpha release, the card represents one of the foundational white spells that defined the game's early mechanical identity. By the time of this box set's release, the card had become an iconic piece of the game's history, serving as a staple for newer players learning the fundamentals of life gain.

The original illustration for Healing Salve was created by Dan Frazier, whose distinct artistic style contributed heavily to the aesthetic of early Magic sets. Frazier’s work sought to depict a simple, mystical remedy, fitting into the high-fantasy tradition of the game. While the card is often cited by long-time players for its limited utility in competitive formats, it remains a beloved relic of the game's inaugural design period and is frequently sought after by collectors interested in the evolution of the Alpha set's visual language.
