Healing Salve

Healing Salve was originally introduced as a white instant spell in the Alpha set of Magic: The Gathering in 1993, designed by Richard Garfield as part of a cycle of low-cost spells intended to introduce basic resource management to new players. Its function—to either prevent damage or restore life—positioned it as a foundational card for white-aligned decks, emphasizing the color's thematic focus on protection and sustainability during the game's early developmental years.

This specific printing appears in the 2014 Duel Decks Anthology: Divine vs. Demonic, a curated boxed set designed to celebrate the history of the Duel Decks series. The illustration for this version retains the classic aesthetic that defined the card's identity for over two decades, balancing the game's evolving mechanical complexity with a nostalgic nod to its inception. Within the context of the Divine vs. Demonic decks, the card serves as a thematic reinforcement of the white-aligned 'Divine' strategy, providing a simple, defensive countermeasure against aggressive playstyles.
