Where it came from
Rest in Peace was released as part of the 2024 Magic: The Gathering 'Universes Beyond' set themed around the Assassin's Creed franchise. The card functions as a reprint of a classic enchantment originally introduced in the 2005 Ravnica: City of Guilds set, reimagined here with thematic art to fit the historical and stealth-oriented aesthetic of the video game series.
The illustration for this iteration depicts a scene characteristic of the Assassin's Creed narrative, emphasizing the series' signature motifs of funerary rites and the solemnity of the Order. The design process focused on bridging the mechanical utility of the card—which exiles graveyards—with the franchise's emphasis on honoring the dead and the central role of memory in the protagonists' journeys through the Animus.
